Introduction:
The VULP 9118 E high power is a high power logarithmic periodic antenna manufactured by Schwarzbeck, Germany, available for frequencies from 60MHz - 1800MHz, "high power" being the popular term for the VULP 9118 E Model improvements. The conventional version is rated at 1 kW input power and the power limitations are related to the N connector and coaxial cable inside the antenna structure. Especially for the generation of very high field strengths, the VULP 9118 E "high power" model has been designed, which is equipped with a high power 7/16 connector and an almost lossless air coaxial cable. In practice, damage to the antenna due to power overload is not possible.
The VULP 9118 E high power is normally operated with a capacitive load disk (sometimes referred to as an "end disk") fitted to the longest oscillator. Unless otherwise stated, all figures refer to the installed load dish and the effect of the capacitive load dish can only be recognized at the low frequency end. Its antenna oscillator is fitted with a soft plastic cover to avoid injury and optical contamination. If the antenna is driven at a power of about 500 W, these soft plastic covers will heat up due to dissipation. For driving powers above about 500 W, we recommend removing the soft plastic covers. In the specified frequency range, the soft plastic covers have a negligible effect on the data of the antenna.
